The cold sweat that had begun clinging to Finn's skin wouldn't dissipate. He’d been trying to listen to music, but the melody had only amplified the discord within him. The wind, a relentless tormentor, suddenly gave way to an explosive sound. The immense oak, a proud presence in the neighborhood, had fallen.

Finn felt a primal fear grip him. He felt the urge to disappear, to become intangible. He felt the sensation of being trapped and exposed, and the world seemed to shrink around him.

He instinctively recoiled. His breath quickened, becoming shallow and rapid. He paced the length of his living room, his steps short and frantic. He fought the urge to shout, to break something, to release the pressure building inside him. The scene outside, the wreckage of the tree, played in his mind on repeat.
